Rhino lecture evening – “Students against poaching”

+++ 20th of March 2018 – the last male northern white rhino had to be put to sleep +++
+++ 6 out of 8 subspecies are declared critically endangered +++

+++ the price for one kilogram of rhino horn is estimated at 73.000 Euros +++
+++ more than 1200 killed rangers in the last ten years +++
+++ poaching of rhino has risen about 9000% between 2005 and 2015 +++„Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world – Nelson Mandela“With stating this quote from the former South African freedom fighter and president we would like to invite you to our Charity-Event >>Rhino lecture evening – Students against poaching<< at the University of Veterinary medicine in Vienna.An interesting mix of presentations regarding different topics about rhino poaching and video messages from Africa makes up the evening program. All of the revenues we raise during this evening are solely being contributed to different organisations which are involved in the fight to save the species from extinction.Speakers will not only include us students and messages from different African wildlife vets. but also: Ao.Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. vet. Franz Schwarzenberger, who owns a professorship at the Vetmeduni Vienna, and worked with rhino in reproduction physiology and IVF in the past as well as Mag. vet. med. Friederike Pohlin, MSc, who is currently doing her PhD thesis about rhino translocation and anaesthesia at the Veterinary Faculty of Onderstepoort in Pretoria, SA.
